The Trade School at Shasta Builders’ Exchange offers craft training to individuals interested in the construction trades.
We offer the NCCER curriculum delivered by an expert journeyman. Our “Pathway to Journeyman” program focuses on Electrical, Plumbing, and Carpentry. However, our CORE program will provide the foundations required to pursue other trades including; solar, weatherization, iron worker, pipeline, or welding.
All course disciplines begin with the prerequisite of Core.
CORE includes the following basic and introductory topics:
Safety, Construction Math, Hand Tools, Power Tools, Construction Drawings, Basic Rigging, Communication Skills, Employability Skills, and Materials Handling.
Carpentry level one includes:
- Orientation to the trade
- Building materials, Fasteners and Adhesives
- Hand and power tools
- Specifications and Layout
- Floor Systems
- Wall Systems
- Ceiling Joist and Roof Framing
- Basic Stair Layout
- Building Envelope Systems
Electrical level one includes:
- Orientation to the Electrical trade
- Electrical Safety
- Introduction to Electrical Circuits
- Electrical Theory
- Introduction to the National Electrical Code
- Device Boxes
- Hand Bending
- Raceways and Fittings
- Conductors and Cables
- Basic Electrical Construction Drawings
- Residential Electrical Services
- Electrical Test Equipment
Plumbing level one includes:
- Introduction to the Plumbing Profession
- Plumbing Safety
- Tools of the Plumbing Trade
- Introduction to Plumbing Math
- Introduction to Plumbing Drawings
- Plastic Pipe and Fittings
- Copper Pipe and Fittings
- Cast-Iron Pipe and Fittings
- Carbon Steel Pipe and Fittings
- Introduction to Plumbing Fixtures
- Introduction to DWV Systems
- Introduction to Water Distribution Systems
To enroll in The Trade School at Shasta Builders’ Exchange a candidate must:
- Submit a completed registration packet including a signed contract
- Pass a drug screening test
- Provide a copy of their High School Diploma, or GED or proof of enrollment in a GED program
- Attend an Orientation Meeting
- Provide Monetary deposit
In addition a candidate may need to provide the following:
- Proof of veteran status
- Standard Payment Plan Agreement
- Resume for job assistance
