Glenn County Future Journey Career Fair 2017

Glenn County Future Journey

Students Visit CHP Table Glenn County Future Journey Career Fair 2017Some of you may have seen the television news coverage of the Glenn County Future Journey Event. Held Tuesday January 31st at the Glenn County Fairgrounds, the fair had a strong turnout with more than 420 eighth graders attending.

It’s great to see the school system encouraging and facilitating our future workforce to explore different career paths at this age. It helps them focus when they reach high school on which path is right for them. With so many choices for Career Technical Education (CTE) available for them in the high schools and junior colleges now, talking with experts helps them make their decisions.

Talking up the Trade School where students earn while they learn and graduate without student loan debt helps guide students into a career in construction. Letting them know that one day of training for forklift or flagging can open a path for them that might lead to a management or ownership position later opens their eyes and encourages them.

Special thanks to Shasta Builders’ Exchange member Matt Derrick of 5D Solutions who was also present at the event. He came to the rescue and helped me assemble our Trades Kiosk which draws students to our booth. What a great guy!

Make sure you sign up for his class, GNSS Topcon Training this month.
