The EXECUTIVE SUMMARY #26
Be a sponsor. Be a player. Be the difference.
In last week’s Executive Summary, I wrote about the need for skilled workers in the trades. Today, there are over 3 million jobs unfilled because of the lack of young people trained in the trade crafts that literally built this country. Every year, many students graduate from college with no job (or job prospects) and a high level of debt. But there is a lucrative alternative, a future in the skilled trades. As a community, we must promote, encourage and support young men and women in this career pursuit.
Charles Candelaria was a skilled artisan who took pride in his trade and wanted to share it with others. Sadly, he left us too soon…but left with us…a legacy of dedication to a craft and the sense of accomplishment that comes with creating something of value. His company, Redding Tile & Stone, is now run by his family. They are committed to training the next generation and are active in sponsoring students and raising money for trade training. We are fortunate to have them in our community and, as a community, we must support their efforts! And it’s easy to do.
Play golf, raise money and make a positive difference. Often, the difference between a young person who is a benefit to society, and one who is a drain on society, is a rewarding, well-paying job. Let’s create rewarding career opportunities in the skilled trades.
