The EXECUTIVE SUMMARY #13

To Be Better!

Kurt Starman took the reigns as Redding’s city manager in 2006. During his tenure, he dealt with drought, fire, and the Great Recession (just to name of few).  He brought in a new Police Chief and re-configured his executive management, team. As the person at the helm, he embraced the successes, made no excuses for the failures, and always did what he believed best for our community.

I have the privilege of knowing Kurt for over 20 years. Whether you agree or disagree with his management style or his decision making, there is no argument of his honesty, integrity, intelligence, and commitment. He is a dedicated husband, father and community leader.

On Friday, May 19, Mr. Starman retired after 25 years of service to our city. I will miss his knowledge and his candor. And, I have to admit, I am a bit jealous that he now gets to enjoy a comfortable retirement. Whether he pursues a career in law, teaches, writes a book, or just enjoys his awesome family, I wish him all the best that life (and retirement) can continue to bring.

And for our City Council…I ask that the person chosen to replace Mr. Starman bring the diverse education, experience (both public and private sector), and the high level of leadership imperative to truly transform our city…a city demanding to be better!
