The Executive Summary #05

Double down on Downtown

Artist rendition of proposed Dicker’s replacementOn March 2, representatives from the Shasta Regional Transportation Agency (SRTA), City of Redding staff, Redding’s City Council members, K2 Development, the McConnell Foundation, and the Shasta Builders’ Exchange met to discuss the next “target projects” for downtown Redding.

In 2016, K2 Development was granted $20 million to raze the Dickers building and provide affordable housing and prime retail locations. This project will initiate Redding’s downtown transformation into an attractive urban center in which people can live, work and play. The goal is to increase community vibrancy while mitigating the adverse impacts of traffic. Walk, bike, long board, RABA your way around a revitalized downtown, brisk with commerce, culture, and entertainment.

On March 20, the Strategic Growth Council will be in Redding. The objective is for them to realize that future grant investment in Redding’s downtown makes sense. Our mission is to convince the Strategic Growth Council of the significant transformation that the investment in the Dickers building will ignite, sparking the need for other key projects in the city’s core, and creating the advantageous opportunity to double down on their initial investment. This is the perfect parlay of public, private and philanthropic investment.
